Heart Shaped Meatloaf

 Most of the family clamors for the brown crusty meat loaf ends, for this reason this recipe is usually made into twin meat loaves.  Celery leaves really give a boost and every slice of meat loaf has yummy bacon, cheese and red pepper bits all blanketed in an easy homemade barbecue sauce. Add extra love and shape into hearts <3.

Preheat oven to 375ºF

Heart Shaped Meat Loaf


    Meat Loaf Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2- 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 red pepper, diced small
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable or olive oil
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 1/2 cups bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons minced celery leaves
  • 6 ounces sharp cheddar or mozzarella or pepper jack, diced appx.1/4 inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons italian seasoning or oregano
  • Meat Loaf Topping:
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • A dash of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon molasses
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • A pinch of black pepper


  1. Saute onions and peppers in oil until slightly browned.
  2. Place in a large bowl with meat and the remaining "meatloaf ingredients" (not the "topping") and combine until uniform, using a light hand.
  3. Shape mixture into two hearts and place in a large baking pan.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes. Discard any fat in the pan.
  5. Combine ketchup, mustard, vinegar, molasses, honey, chili powder and salt. ( If desired also combine with caramelized bits from the baking pan.)
  6. Pour over the meat loaves to coat.
  7. Return to the oven for 10 minutes or until done using a meat thermometer (160ºF)
